Dennis's
Nationals 2005 winning Sopwith Triplane on the runway at Barkston Heath, pre the
big trimming prang. 38" wing span. Mills 1.3 engine. weighs 22 oz.
Construction follows traditional methods, except for the wings, which have
carbon fibre leading and trailing edges and rib caps. Notice that the propeller
is on back to front. This ploy is useful if you need to reduce the thrust during
the trimming stages.
Martyn Smith
From one extreme to another. My Son's collection
of indoor foamies. Ever since he was born we dragged the poor little mite, year
after year, to all the May and August Nationals. He is now 24 and stands above
me. Something must have rubbed off on him. But indoor ?
Philip Smith

Philip's Eindecker was built over a 30 year period, yes
years. Unusual "Captured" paint scheme. Electric power.

Twin Jetex 100s!!!!! Gloucester Meteor in all red livery represents the
Meteor built for airspeed record attempts.
Not flown yet. When it does, blink and you will miss it!!!!
Slingsby Motor Tutor. Electric Power. The model looks right but
is heavy and proved to be a pig to trim.
The Tutor has now been fitted with a DC Merlin. Much lighter. Awaiting trimming
session.

Sopwith Tabloid Prototype. Scale 1/8th, Span 40" Will be
powered by DC Sabre 1.5cc

Dolphin at Old Warden - Built totally from sheet with
the exception of the turtledeck, this was a quick try-out for a bigger, 'proper'
model, as the real thing attracted such varying comments as to its flying abilities. The models was
light and powered by a Frog 80 with Williams Bros WW1 wheels. In flight, it
proved to be a total brute - it flew well until it stalled at which point, it
stopped flying TOTALLY!!! So, the dummy model saved me alot of time NOT building good 'un
Camel - Built from Derek Collin's free plan in
Aeromdeller 1970. Power is a DC Dart. Weight 11oz inc ballast. Pendulum elevator
that works very well but only really of value in windy conditions. Built in 2000
and flown continuously, I have never broken it though I have broken two
crankshafts due to its heavy landings. Charlie can supply G.R.P. cowlings for
this model (Contact me)
Terry Manley

Oops. The end of Terry's long lived 1 1/2 Strutter.
Close inspection reveals a lot of damage after a crash. He jumped on it, to put
it out of it's misery, to the cheers of the assembled company.
He built another
one!! Pictured on the right with Terry checking the angle of the dangle, as the
judges wait, before a flight at the 2006 Nationals.

Derek's electric ducted fan Sud Est Baroudeur about to
take off from it's Rapier powered dolly to win the Free Flight Scale Co2 /
Electric class at the 2006 Nationals. The dollies antics, after take off, were
just as exciting as the models.
This model was also awarded the Eric Coates Trophy as being adjudged the best
Scale model of 2006, in the overall spirit of scale aeromodelling.
Derek's
42 span Fairey Fox under restoration. Note carbon tube main spars in the wings.
Some years ago I saw this model in its original form and was amazed at the wonderful
aluminium cowl. Not made up his mind as to what power to put in it
Derek is
another modeller taken out by the rule changes to the Superscale contest so its
bite the bullet time, use a diesel Derek.
Received the following
notes from Derek. This is the first time that I have used carbon fibre on a
model and it appears that it will be good although it is quite heavy. The wing tips are the Coates method but I
use basketry cane to form the periphery. The aluminium parts are not so pristine
after about 30 years but look O.K. when polished. The covering is at he moment
the 45 gram per sq. metre paper and if I can manage to cover the fuselage with
it I will. It will probably be diesel so it can be entered in superscale.
