2012 Season
Make a note in your diary for the
following competitions and meetings for Free Flight Scale.
MAKE SURE YOU CHECK with the organizer of
each meeting you want to attend, as no responsibility will be taken for any
incorrect information, dates, cancellations etc.
If you have a Free Flight Scale meeting or
competition that you want to add to this list please e-mail me with the full
details.
In a world of high tech', ready to
fly and inexpensive radio control models the "simplicity"
of Free Flight Scale continues to survive, and
draws good spectator numbers, but
we could always do with more support, particularly at events other than the
Nationals and Woodvale, so please try your best to get to as many as possible.
Here
is a brief rundown of the Competitions throughout the year
Medway
M.F.C. are having 2 free flight
meetings this year on the Isle of Sheppy (North Kent).
Lots of space.
All free flight welcome. Have a relaxed fun day out, be it
trimming your latest masterpiece or airing one of your old hacks.
The competition for Free Flight Scale in June is simple and relaxed. No
documentation required. Hand launch only.
B.M.F.A.
Free Flight Nationals. Late May Bank Holiday.
On the Saturday evening Aeromodeller and Model Aircraft FF scale designs.
Sunday evening. The Howard Credgington Memorial Trophy.
The
Church Fenton. Wednesday evenings.
Makes a very pleasant change if you live within a
reachable distance. The evening weather is usually calm and this is one of our
best airfields, with long grass too. Documentation needed but it is a low-key
affair.
Dreaming
Spires. July.
Always one to look forward to. No documentation required so it’s an
opportunity to bring out the sport scale models. Nothing over 1.5cc. Multiple entry is allowed and
to make the most of the day, bring a model for one of the many mini duration
events.
Old
Warden Scale Day. July
A great day out with good facilities and the museum included
in the entry price. Long gone are the days when the field was crammed with scale
models but we keep going hoping to see a resurgence. It won’t happen
without you.
The
Eddie Riding Trophy. At Woodvale on the first Saturday in August.
Great fun. Flying space can be limited, depending on the wind direction, but ok if you are prepared, trimmed,
and can limit your engine run. Static judging throughout the day and the evening flying is hectic and
concentrated, and all the better for it. A large and appreciative audience is
there to applaud your efforts. Good prizes as well.
A word of warning.
Entry for competitors after 10.00 is very difficult and impossibly restricted as
road traffic is stopped inside the grounds and you will be directed to the public
car park which is a very long way from the Eddie Riding marquee. Be there
before 10.00!!!
B.M.F.A.
National Championships. August Bank Holiday.
The one the contest fliers look forward to. This is deliberately formal to bring
out and sort the best from the rest. If you haven’t competed before,
don’t be put off by the grand name. We all had to start somewhere and a
lot will be learnt by joining in. You have got to be in it to win it. It is a very enjoyable event over
two days but you
need to be flight proven and well documented. The airfield is jammed with a
multitude of events going on and there is little opportunity for trimming.
